Sugar Babies

These are the kind of old snapshots that make the pseudo-nostalgia-feeling Instagram worth 1 billion dollars.

Every picture tells a story and this one makes me laugh out loud because it is says so much about my Mom. In order to understand this photo, you have to understand the circumstances.

My Dad, may he rest in peace, was a dentist. Candy was seldom seen in my house unless given on a special occasion. It was a rare treat. Never at bedtime because sugar would “stick to your teeth and rot your enamel”. In this photo, my brother and sister and I are freshly bathed, in our pajamas, tucked into my parents bed, watching their TV and eating SUGAR BABIES. This says one thing to me…

My Dad wasn’t home.

I can tell from our ages that my youngest brother was probably just about a couple of weeks old and down the hall in his bedroom, and…in all likelihood, wailing his ass off.

My Mom, who was most likely exhausted, probably needed us to behave, so she whipped out the big guns. It goes without saying that we loved being in our parents bed because it was so cozy and they had the best TV in the house. The individual packages of Sugar Babies just made it BEYOND. I’m sure we behaved like it was our job…doesn’t it look like it?

I am just so grateful that my Mom snapped this photo. To me, this is worth a billion dollars.

I am the luckiest Mom in the world! I had four Sugar babies who because of a sweet before bed didn’t hurt them because they gave me 7 sugar babies called ” grandchildren” love that picture. Thanks for the memories!

And as a nostalgic fool, I sit here with tears in my eyes missing those days, missing my mom and my dad and remember how much fun it was. When Dad finally did come home and we were up ( see if you remember this part-I do) Mom quickly grabbed the bags and said “Go brush your teeth , hurry up” We ran to the bathroom brushed and then kissed Daddy good night ……. and he never had a clue . Or if he did , he never said a thing . Ah those were the days .

Your face looks like you were telling your Mom to get lost so you could get to the task at hand. Either that, or you had a big wad of Sugar Daddy stuck to your teeth!
